This Happened is a storyboard of 7 tableaux paintings, a reflection on brutalities perpetrated by whites on people of color in the last 5 centuries. The artist (who is white) acknowledges “there is a lot of homework to do, which is ongoing; Facing American racial history for me has started the untangling of a Gordian Knot.” Not polemical, literal or historical in intent, the artwork is an attempt to respectfully join and further the conversation in art about race.
