Stacey Davidson: “I am a painter who makes dolls. The dolls are actors, instruments that I use to work through things that I can’t shake or don’t understand. I sketch with sculpture. Pictures get made through 3 dimensions. What’s painful gets processed through play.”
About “Up From the South”
“Much of this work came from my engagement with local plantation history & its descendants during a sabbatical in 2019. I studied the Reconstruction era, marked by extreme violence here in York County, SC. The question that I’ve asked again and again as I’ve moved through this material: where does the violence go? “
